“. I kept picturing little kids play in the evening in a huge field in the rye. Thousands of kids, and all around — not a soul, not a single adult, except me. And I’m standing on the edge of a cliff over the abyss. And my job is keeping the kids, so they don’t fall off the cliff. So all my work…. To guard children catcher in the rye…”
The passage quoted from the book by J. Salinger’s “catcher in the rye” is very accurate, in my opinion, characterizes the work of the social teacher in the modern school. The complexity of modern social processes, their high dynamism often produce different kinds of deviations in the behavior of students. Increasingly in our society, there is a trend of dysfunctional families, originating in consequence of the disengagement of parents from the decision of issues of education and personal development of the child. Not always this kind of problems immediately catches the eye, sometimes it is hidden pretty deep. And only if a teenager happens opened her roots, with a beginning in the way of his family, distorted moral and life values. The main point of the work of a social pedagogue – time to prevent this impending disaster, to try to prevent her.
In our school students from disadvantaged families, but these families are usually large. Most often it is the children of parents suffering from alcoholism, children from single-parent families in which a parent cannot cope with the mission of raising a child, as well as from families who are in difficult life situation and leading anti-social lifestyle. Learning, mostly in classes VII, such children outside the classroom are left to themselves, have a lot of free time, which is weak, and at times it is not controlled by older members of their families. These children are primarily susceptible to all sorts of harmful dependency on psychoactive substances and compounds (surfactants), subsequently turning into a steady addiction. These children have a lack of ability to adequately assess their actions, loss causation with their results, they often inherent in a constant feeling of anxiety. In this condition, teenagers are often prone to theft, use of profanity, often lie. Surfactants and drugs help Teens “calmer”, relieve nervous tension, to relax, to get away from “unsolvable” life’s problems, to remove difficulties in communication, to overcome shyness, boost confidence in their capabilities. The drug creates the illusion of perfect fitness and satisfactory fulfillment. The situation is aggravated by the availability of surfactant, adolescents represent a broad commercial interest for marketers in the social circle children from disadvantaged families often includes people who have already tried and experienced the “pleasure” and actively promote it. It is at this point to help the teenager, located at the crossroads of life, must come an adult, to explain and to teach children to survive the disappointments and vicissitudes of life without anger and swearing, to show how beautiful the world without drugs and identify the many alternatives.
In school, when attentive and conscientious attitude of its employees, the facts of the consumption of surfactants, drugs are very difficult to hide. Therefore, the situation can be controlled and even to dramatically improve.
It is very important to properly and timely diagnose psychological climate in such families. Almost all parents from disadvantaged families are unemployed, have a lack of education. Working with them is extremely difficult, should always be a zone of special attention in the field of ethics of interpersonal relations. Every true word teacher has certain educational implications, or not be there otherwise. All dysfunctional families are on the intraschool account, which has a preventive nature (by decision of the Council of prevention), they are always in the zone of heightened attention of a social pedagogue. It is imperative teenagers from such families to surround the missing attention and care, to give the opportunity to feel the joy of communication with other children, to experience a sense of success, in short, to increase the social role of the pupil in the relationship with classmates by engaging in various forms of academic and extra-curricular activities.
This is the goal of my work as a social educator when working with troubled families, the main directions of which are the following:
• assistance to families in issues related to education and upbringing of the child;
• assist the child in addressing the factors that negatively affecting his attendance and progress;
• involve children, parents and community to the organization and conduct of socially significant events, promotions;
• recognition. diagnosis and resolution of conflicts affecting the interests of the child, problem situations at early stages of development with the aim of preventing serious consequences;
• conduct group and individual counseling to children and their parents in the resolution of problematic situations, relieving stress, raising children in the family, etc.;
• identification of the requests, the needs of children and development of measures of assistance individual students with the involvement of experts from relevant institutions and organizations;
For our area an actual shortage of different sections and teen clubs, a variety of employment, tourism and local history groups. That is, in organizational terms, the classroom of the student enough occupied. Social worker in conjunction with the Deputy Director on educational work become organizers of extracurricular time student, helping the effective interaction of students and their parents in conducting extra-curricular activities.
In addition, at school, with the direct participation of a social pedagogue is extensive involvement of students from disadvantaged families in various sports clubs. For example, many of the so-called “difficult” children, attend school club “the Teenager and the law”. Purpose of the club is to help kids “skip over” the current crisis and to independently change their lives using the necessary legal knowledge. One of the club’s activities is preventive work among children and adolescents on anti-drug theme. Students in this club participate in targeted urban educational programs “We can do anything” and “no, Thanks!”. On the basis of an Orthodox Church, located in the district, there is a sports section on fighting, which is a high school graduate Alexander Podgorny, where “difficult” children and children of low-income families.
It’s a little of what the school can and strives to offer opportunities for students from disadvantaged families to occupy his free time with advantage for health and the development of various abilities, aptitudes.
But the main thing is always necessary to remember a simple truth – all in the interests of the child and is always on the side of the child. If you try to develop in children positive life-affirming attitude towards the world, the people, the result will be immediately obvious. It is often quite difficult, but as said K. C. The film, “… difficult to do the usual, ordinary simple, and easy – nice…”.
